The fundamental difference between an investor-oriented corporation and a cooperative corporation is that benefits in a cooperative are distributed on the basis of use or patronage rather than on the amount of investment or stock owned. Cooperative members can be individuals, partnerships, corporations or other legal entities.
To achieve the desired benefits from the cooperative the members must use or patronize it. Using the cooperative is the member’s easiest responsibility and is critically important to its business success.
